Special Guest Speaker - Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Bank Founder And Nobel Prize Recipient

Muhammad Yunus is a banker, world-renowned economist and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. Dr. Yunus is the founder of the Grameen Bank, which has issued over US$ 6.5 billion to more than 7.5 million borrowers. 94% of Grameen loans have gone to women, who suffer disproportionately from poverty and who are more likely than men to devote their earnings to their families. In 2006, Yunus and the bank were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, "for their efforts to create economic and social development from below." Dr. Yunus has received several other national and international honors. He is the author of Banker to the Poor and a founding board member of Grameen America and Grameen Foundation. He is one of the founding members of Global Elders initiated by billionaire Sir Richard Branson. Yunus also serves on the board of directors of the United Nations Foundation, which builds and implements public-private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems. Muhammad Yunus is an honorary chair of the McGill World Platform for Health and Economic Convergence, a joint initiative between the Desautels Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Medicine.
